[Viki doesn't realize that Jessica has DID and that she's speaking to Tess]
Viki: There's obviously something wrong. You are clearly not yourself.
Tess: Of course I'm myself. I mean, look at me. See? Right here.


Viki: I'll see you then at home, all right?
Tess: Mm-hmm. Don't wait up.
[Viki leaves and Tess mutters to herself]
Tess: I really want to have dinner with bionic woman. Jeez.


Dr. Jamison: Isn't your mother and Jessica's mother one in the same?
Tess: I guess if you catch her on the right day, she is.


Dr. Jamison: You seem to harbor a lot of resentment towards Jessica's mother. Did she have something to do with this childhood trauma?
Tess: Please. That bitch couldn't mother me if she tried.


[Todd, anxious to tell Viki that Jessica has DID, has brought Tess to Llanfair. Tess goes off on Viki when Viki asks her what's going on]
Tess: You want to know the truth, really? Okay, fine, I'll tell you the truth. These past couple of months, all of my problems, the meds, everything -- it's all your fault! My life's a mess because of you!


Tess: (to Viki) It's your fault. Every bit of it.
Viki: I -- what is? I don't understand.
Tess: How could you with your head buried so far --
Todd: (interrupting Tess) Hey!


[Todd tells Tess that he wants the truth]
Tess: The truth, really? Well, get out of my face because Princess Victoria has come down off of her throne to grace us with an audience!
Viki: (completely bewildered) Have I done anything?
Tess: You've done everything!
Todd: Don't you make this about her!
Tess: Why? Everything else is about her.
Todd: She doesn't need to hear this crap.
Tess: Oh, no, I disagree, and I'm on a roll.


[Viki has had a heart attack as a result of Tess yelling at her]
Todd: Viki? Can you hear me? Jess, call 911.
Tess: No.
Todd: For God's sakes, call 911! She's having a heart attack!
Tess: Oh. That again?


Tess: (singing to herself) "Mama had a heart attack, I'm not taking Antonio back...Natalie, Kevin they all fall down."


Viki: I will do whatever I can for you. I mean that, honey. I'm your mother. I'm here.
Tess: Yeah, you might be here, but you're not my mother.
Viki: Why do you think I'm not your mother?
Tess: Because I -- I don't feel it. I don't feel what you're supposed to feel. And I want to. I want to feel what everybody else on the planet feels. And if I have this baby, if I become a mother myself, then...


Tess: I have been living my new life, my own life, one that I never imagined that I could ever have. Where nobody was telling me what to do, nobody was telling me how to act. I could do whatever I wanted. I could be just me. And let me tell you, I had a blast. I was on my own, and that's how I liked it. For a while. Till Nash. He gave me a home. He did so much for me. And if I stay here, I lose him. And if I leave, I'm never coming back, ever.
Viki: Why? Jessie, if you've fallen in love --
Tess: Jessica hasn't fallen in love! I have!


Tess: You know, I was always such a problem for Jessica. She's so perfect. No wonder everybody loves her. It's enough to make you sick. Well, me, anyway. But now I'm living the life, my own life. And, sure, you know, at first it was all partying and stuff. It was so not like Jessica. And then I realized, you know, you couldn't go at it alone in this world. You need a little bit of the considerate Jessica stuff, you know, the yin, the yang. Except Jessica got most of the yin part. I got the sexy part of the deal. Now I don't know what to do with her. I don't know what to do without her. We've just been together for so long, I'm just -- now I'm scared.
Viki: Darling, what are you saying?
Tess: I'm afraid of the person that I am now.


Viki: Please, tell me, who are you?
Tess: It doesn't matter.
Viki: You don't have to worry about my heart. I'm better now. I can handle anything.
Tess: You know, I was thinking about that last time. I went off on you and I gave you a heart attack. I was glad. I wanted you to die. I was a bitch back then. I didn't love anybody. I didn't think anybody could love me. Till I stole Nash's car.


Viki: You -- you're not Jessica, are you?
Tess: Nope. No, I'm not.
Viki: Who are you? What's your name?
Tess: Oh. It's Tess. Get it? Jess, Tess -- kind of like --
Viki: Viki and Niki.
Tess: Exactly.
Viki: You're an alter?
Tess: No. I'm a person, just like you.


Viki: I don't understand this. When you were a little girl, there were no problems. You had the happiest childhood.
Tess: You think so?
Viki: Yes, I did. I had no idea. Why does Jessica need an alter?
Tess: Are you really that clueless?


Viki: When I had the heart attack, that was you.
Tess: Yeah, well, I just told you that.
Viki: And you wanted me to die.
Tess: Then, not now, though I think it would be easier, regardless of what Jessica says. She seems to think that we both need you.


Viki: You need a doctor.
Tess: Really? So you can integrate me? So you can get your precious Jessica back? No way.
Viki: It's for your good as well as hers.
Tess: Oh, go to hell! You only care about Jessica. You don't care about me.
Viki: No, that's not true. I love you, Tess. I love you just as much as I love Jessica.


Viki: I do love you.
Tess: No, you don't. Nobody loves me, nobody but Nash. And he loves me for who I am, not some psycho version of Jessica.


Viki: I do understand, better than anyone.
Tess: That's why you want to get rid of me.
Viki: No. I am so grateful to you.
Tess: Grateful?
Viki: Yes, because you're helping my Jessie through this, whatever it is.


Viki: I am so sorry. I should have seen the signs. Of all people, I should have known.
Tess: No argument here.


Viki: We have to make you whole.
Tess: "Whole"? Don't you mean transform me into Jessica?


[Nash tries to defend Viki]
Tess: God, you don't know her! She's Victoria Davidson. She's the empress of Llanview. She's a bona fide nut job!


[Tess is taken to the hospital and put in restraints -- Viki is horrified]
Tess: You know why this is happening. Tell them to stop, Mother.


[Tess has demanded to speak to Niki Smith; Viki pretends to be Niki]
Tess: (to Dr. Jamison) Is she really Niki?
Viki: (pretending to be Niki) What's she? And what's it to you? And who the hell do you got to sleep with to get a drink around here?
Tess: I hear you. Why don't we go to your favorite watering hole? What was the name of it again?
Viki: Who cares what it's called, as long as the sign says "open" on the door? That's all that counts.
Tess: Oh, yeah, yeah, but I'm sure you remember that big buffed-out bartender -- tiny! That was his name, wasn't it?
Viki: Tiny was his I.Q.!
Tess: Nice play, Victoria. There was no Tiny. Who do you think you're dealing with here? I know the woman, and you're not Niki.
Viki: Who are you calling a fake?
Tess: This conversation is over. Where's Nash?


[Tess comes out of a hypnosis session and finds Viki and Clint looking at her]
Viki: It's all right, honey. It's -- it's me. It's Mom. Niki's gone.
Tess: Yeah, like you tell the truth.


Viki: Jessica agreed to let you out so that we could talk to you. Jessica decided this.
Tess: Jessica's an idiot.


Tess: (to Viki and Dr. Jamison) Two, four, six, eight, I don't want to integrate.


Viki: You know, I've been thinking. When Jessie was about 4 years old, I walked into this library and Jessica was walking up and down on the sofa in her shoes. And I said to her she had to stop that and get down. And she looked at me and stuck her little chin out and she said, "Sofas are not as important as little girls." That was you, wasn't it?
Tess: You had a lot of rules.
Viki: And you taught me what matters and what's not important. You are my daughter, and I love you, and I love you because you're funny. Mostly, I love you because you bore the pain that Jessica couldn't handle. But the thing is that pain is still with you and now it's time for it to go away -- not you, the pain.
Tess: Ok. That's enough. Stop talking.
Viki: You think that talking about it is going to make it more real, but, in fact, talking about it is what will make it start to go away. Tess?
Tess: You said my name.


Tess: (to Viki, Clint, Antonio and Dr. Fox) God, what a bunch of control freaks you guys are. It must be driving you nuts dealing with an unknown quantity like myself.


Viki: You would become a part of Jessica when you're integrated.
Tess: Really? That's nice, because I've always wanted to be the little toe of a WASP princess.


Tess: (to Viki and Clint) Oh, hi. You wouldn't be having a Jessica powwow in there without inviting the guest of honor?


[Tess has decided to get the paternity test after all]
Tess: Let's get this over with!
Viki: Well, I'm very glad you decided to go through with it, darling.
Tess: Jessica's your darling, not me.


Todd: You like Tess?
Viki: She's my daughter.
Todd: Didn't answer my question.
Viki: Okay, truthfully, whenever I look at Tess, all I see is a threat to Jessica. I mean, I know in my head that she is, of course, a part of Jessica but -- I want Jessie back. I want my baby back. I want her the way she was. And I know that's never going to happen because she will never be the same again.


Clint: Viki, you know something? I think that you are terrified of Tess, more terrified even than Jessica is.
Viki: Ok, that doesn't even make any sense.
Clint: You don't like to think that Tess is real because that makes Niki real. But Tess is a flesh-and-blood personality of her own, capable of inflicting pain on all the people who love Jessica, just like Niki did to the people who loved you.


Tess: Every time Jessica was too afraid to face something, she ran and hid just like you.
Viki: No!
Tess: Save it. There's no excuse, Viki, except that you're pathetic and you're weak. And you want to live in Viki-land where everything's nice and perfect 24/7. That's not how the real world works.
Viki: I do know that.
Tess: So then what was it? You just didn't want to get your hands dirty? Oh, no, not you and not precious little Jessica, either. That's why when things get ugly, you let Tess and Niki out -- so you guys won't be held accountable, so you won't be blamed because you're off-duty, you've checked out.


Viki: I have tried to fight Niki.
Tess: Well, obviously not hard enough, which really makes me wonder how hard did you try, because you're pretty strong when you want to be, Viki.


Viki: I never, ever wanted any harm to come to you.
Tess: You never want any harm to come to Jessica. You didn't give a damn about me.
Viki: That's not true, either.
Tess: We were just your attack dogs, me and Niki, because that's how you treated us. You treated us like dogs.
Viki: Oh, Tess, stop this!
Tess: Oh, come to think of it, you'd probably treat dogs better, now, wouldn't you?


Viki: I'm trying to help you.
Tess: So you can get Jessica back.
Viki: No, because Jessica will never come back the same way. You will be there, a part of her.
Tess: I don’t want to be a part of her!


Natalie: (about Tess) You still care about her after what she's done?
Viki: She's my daughter.


Tess: You know, Niki's right. We don't need anybody else. People like us, we're better off on our own.
Viki: Tess, it's all right to be hurt.
Tess: Not for me, it's not. Look, I know that Jessica appreciates this hovering thing that you do, but it's creeping me out, so could you just leave me alone?


Clint: I can't believe this happened. That our daughter's a victim of abuse of a child pornographer.
Viki: Yeah, well -- we just had to watch it. She had to live through it. No, Tess had to live through it. Oh, my God, that poor child....


Viki: We're just surprised to see you. I mean, why -- why would you come in through the terrace?
Tess: Well, I wanted to skip the whole emotional family reunion, but I see I needn't worry. You both seem fairly underwhelmed.


Viki: This is not an ambush.
Tess: Well, it feels like one, but what would I know? I'm not fixed yet, right?


Viki: Do you always wake up like that -- scared?
Tess: Well, not when I'm with Nash, away from here, away from you.
Viki: Yeah, I expect Niki wakes up scared, too.
Tess: Oh, God. I am not interested in swapping tales of our alters with you.


Tess: You don't understand anything. And if you had even a clue in that head of yours, then you wouldn't have woken up your little girl to drag her to the bar with you.
Viki: I didn't do that.
Tess: Oh, see? There it is. You're right, because Viki doesn't do anything wrong. It was Niki, right? Well, Niki's you, and because of you or her or whatever figment of yourself you want to blame it on, I ended up a movie star -- nice. I wouldn't do that to my kid in a million years. Look at you, you sanctimonious bitch. It would serve you right if you never got to see Jessica again.


Viki: I know how much you resent me, and obviously you have every right. When Niki was in control, she put you in unspeakably awful situations and then when I was myself again, when Niki was gone, it never occurred to me to look at my sunny little Jessica and think that there was anything underneath. I never allowed myself to suspect that your life was anything less than perfect. I didn't want to face the fact that my child was suffering because of what I was, and I will never, ever forgive myself for that.
Tess: Good. You shouldn't. It's unforgivable.


Tess: So you want to play a game of bad childhood poker, huh? I'll see you a pedophile and I'll raise you an abusive daddy.
Viki: You know it's not funny.
Tess: No, it's not. It's boring. And oddly enough, it's all about you. You know, it really drives me crazy how Jessica never notices that every word, every sentence, every conversation that happens in this house turns out to be about you.


Tess: Can we get the abridged version, please? The sick, twisted daddy rapes princess Victoria, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Little Victoria is at the mercy of her evil dad.
Viki: Tess, we both were at the mercy of men who had no mercy. They robbed us of our dignity and our innocence.
Tess: No. Because I never had any innocence. I was born used, remember?
Viki: I'm so sorry.
Tess: You've already said that.


Viki: Tess? Please? Please let me help you. Let me comfort you.
Tess: Why? Because you need it?
Viki: No, because you need it.


Viki: Tess, you have to deal with the reality of this situation.
Tess: Excuse me? Facing reality was my job of the duo.


Tess: I'm stronger than you think.
Viki: Then deal with this.
Tess: How? By being a good little girl and running off to die where all the bad alters go?


Tess: I have my own life. I have a family now.
Viki: Nash loves you. Does Nash love Jessica? Because Nash could wake up with Jessica at any given moment. You could be sitting in a chair holding your baby in your arms, and you could simply disappear!
Tess: Stop saying that. Shut your mouth!


Tess: (about Jessica) You just want her back.
Viki: Yes, I do. I love her.
Tess: See.
Viki: And I love you.


Viki: If you think that I haven't paid for what I let happen to you, just imagine this. You have a beautiful, charming, funny, gorgeous little girl who won't let you help her, who refuses to believe that I love you. To know that it's killing me that I can't put my arms around you and make it all beer.
Tess: Why did you let him do that to me? Why didn't you stop him?
Viki: I didn't know. I didn't let myself know. I don't know how you could ever forgive me, because you are my baby, Tess. You are my baby.
[Tess and Viki hug as Tess cries]
Viki: It's all right. It's ok. I'm here. I will never, ever leave you alone again.


Viki: I came to see how you're doing.
Tess: No, you didn’t. Actually, you came to lay your grandmother claim.


Viki: Tess, your baby is going to be part of a very large family.
Tess: Oh, yes, I know -- the Buchanan-Lord dynasty. I've heard it, like, a gajillion times.


Tess: I've been thinking, you know, what if it's not me that integrates into Jessica?
Viki: You think Jessica's going to integrate into you?
Tess: Well, I've been doing some reading, and the dominant personality doesn't always have to be the host. What if the alter was stronger? What if the alter was loved more?
Viki: Don’t go there.
Tess: Why? Afraid I'm right?


Viki: Are you scared?
Tess: No, I'm -- ugh -- looking forward to the torture of childbirth.
Viki: Well, it's perfectly normal to be worried.
Tess: Well, I'm not really classified as normal, now, am I?


Viki: I mean, they call it "labor" for a reason. But it is so worth it when you hold that beautiful child in your arms.
Tess: Well, that wasn't me, remember? I didn’t exist yet. I came out later when, you know, you bailed on me.


Viki: I do love you. Do you know that?
Tess: Huh. Yeah -- as long as I sit in the corner of Jessica's head and behave.


Tess: Ok, ok, so I might have been a bit obnoxious, but I've had to be. You know, I fight the battles that Jessica can't fight.
Viki: Not so much anymore.


Viki: This is about you, Jessica, and your baby whose going to be born very soon.
Tess: Well, aside from the nasty, you know, meant disorder that runs in this family, I guess he or she is going to come from a pretty good gene pool.
Viki: I'd like to think so. Whatever else, this child will never want for love.
Tess: At least we agree on one thing.


[Tess is in labor]
Viki: I know you're afraid --
Tess: Damn right I'm afraid! Wouldn't you be if they wanted to saw you in half?


Viki: Tess, please, let me talk to Jessica just for a moment.
Tess: No.
Viki: I swear to you, if you do that, I will -- I will make sure that you are the first person to hold this baby. Please, Tess. Please. Please let me help you. You are my daughter and I love you. Please let me help you bring this child into the world. I swear to you I will talk to Jessica and I will tell her this is not the time for her to take over, this is your time. You, Tess, you have earned it.


Tess: Ok, you promise to let me have the baby after I let Jessica out to talk to you? Yeah, I might be losing my mind, but I'm not losing my mind. This is some sort of intervention.
Viki: No, I hadn't thought of it like that.
Tess: Then don’t.


Jessica: Tess, it's ok. You've taken care of our baby this whole time. You should be the one to bring him or her into the world. Just -- please let me help you.
Viki: Tess? Hear me, and hear Jessica. Today is not a day for integration, ok? Today you have to deliver this baby.
Tess: Okay. You win.
Viki: No, darling, you do.
