Nash & Clint [2005-2006]
Quotes from 2007 onwards will be added later!
Clint: We were never properly introduced. I'm Clint Buchanan, and Jessica, or Tess, as you know her, is my daughter.
Nash: I'm Nash Brennan, Mr. Buchanan. Tess and I are -- well, she's an amazing woman, sir. Just tell me if there's anything I can do to help her be that again.
Nash: Would you find it hard if the best part of the woman you love doesn't include you? It's --
Clint: Yeah, I would. But it is a possibility, so we have to prepare for it.
Nash: Right. Thank you.
Clint: What for?
Nash: You have been honest with me. You've helped me understand this. I appreciate that.
Nash: I will never maliciously take your daughter away from you. But I'm not giving up either. Whatever happens to her, whoever she ends up being, I'm not going to just walk away from the woman I love and the child that may be mine. I'm just not like that. I'm sorry.
Clint: I understand, son. Neither would I.
[Jessica wants to let Tess out to talk to Niki]
Clint: Jessica, I know you want to help, and, believe me, I don't like keeping Viki hostage in her own --
Jessica: Then let's try, Dad.
Clint: What if you end up in the same situation? No, Jessica, no.
Nash: Not a lot of free will in this house, is there, sir?
Nash: So Cristian is Antonio's brother, right?
Clint: That's right, and Natalie's husband, and he disappeared some time ago, and everybody believed that he was dead.
Nash: Now, why would anyone run away from here?
Nash: I saw you having lunch with that lady over there.
Clint: That was no lady, that was Dorian Lord.
[Clint offers Nash a room at the Buchanan mansion]
Nash: It's a kind offer, sir, but I -- I really think --
Clint: Hey, look, if this is a pride thing, get over it. We've got too much of that around here as it is.
Nash: Well, then you don't need any more of it.
[Nash tries to compare his and Tess's situation to Clint and Viki's]
Clint: I fell in love with the original woman. You fell in love with the alter.
Nash: Yes, the original, but she wasn't integrated, was she? So tell me, was it easy for you to fall in love with Niki Smith and all these other alters who were running around your house? Because after all, they were other parts of Viki.
Clint: Nothing about it was easy! And how dare you talk about my marriage, which you know nothing about. Niki Smith put me and my family through absolute agony. She used me and plotted against me, and all the while I was trying to save the woman who gave me the best years of my life. Viki and the kids were everything to me, and when I lost them, I lost a part of myself that I've -- I've never been able to get back. You talk about how much you love Tess, and that is all well and good. But it's not the same. Viki and I had a relationship that lasted for years. We had a marriage, we had family, a life.
Bo: (about Nash) Seems like a nice kid.
Clint: Yeah, he kind of grows on you.
[Nash has just watched the video tape of Tess being molested as a little girl]
Clint: Now you understand what Jessica endured and why she's so emotionally fragile.
Nash: Tess! It was Tess. That little girl is Tess, my Tess. Makes total sense. That's why she can't trust anybody. Her own family let her go with that sick, perverted -- where the hell were you? Son of a bitch!
Clint: You think I had any idea this was going on?
Nash: You should've. You were her daddy. It was your job to know. Here I've been afraid that I'm not ready to be a parent. Oh, I know -- I can do better than this, buddy.
Nash: You know, I've always had this little problem trusting people. I -- but now that I see how you and Viki have played us, treated your daughters, how you guys handle your family, I'm starting to understand why.
Clint: Nash, I never meant to betray you. And the way you were brought up, I'm sure that you find it hard to trust people.
Nash: I'll get over it.
Clint: But you may be a father soon, so you should understand how strong families work.
Nash: You know, I've -- I've seen how your strong family works. Clint, I'm not impressed.
Nash: I know that you see me as an outsider in all this, but I don't. I can't.
Clint: Nash, there's going to come a time when you have to.
Nash: You and Mrs. Davidson have been so very kind to me. You let me stay at your father's house. Mrs. Davidson sacrificing her sanity, her very existence for Tess, for Jess. Well, that kind of sacrifice --
Clint: She'd do more than that. She would do whatever it takes.
Nash: You are Both such good people. And I see that in Tess.
Clint: Nash, I --
Nash: I know you don't like to hear that, but Tess is the strong-willed and passionate woman that she is because of the two of you, and I never, ever take that for granted.
[Nash calls Clint from Napa]
Nash: Sir, I'm sorry, but that's my daughter, and you know me well enough to know I'm not going to just walk away from her.
Clint: Look, I understand how you feel, but you've got to do what's best for this baby.
Nash: What's best for the baby? You think that's Antonio? Sir, I'm going to take care of the Restons, and then I'm coming back to get my daughter. Bye.
Viki: For the life of me, I do not understand why you are so taken with Nash.
Clint: I am not taken with him. I just appreciate the fact that he loves my daughter.
[Nash is shocked to learn that Jessica is watching the tape of her abuse]
Clint: Look, I know how much you wanted to be there.
Nash: Would it make a difference?
Clint: Listen, as far as I'm concerned, you're family.
Antonio: I don't think Nash is going to be the kind of guy who's willing to stay in the background for long. I mean, he could -- he could come for Brennan at any time, and I'm sure he still wants to get through to Tess.
Clint: If I were in his shoes, I'd do the same thing.
Jessica: Wow. You got to know Nash pretty well, didn't you?
Clint: I did. I did, yeah.
Jessica: And you like him, don't you?
Clint: I think he's a decent and very caring young man.
Clint: Nash, Tess is now a part of Jessica --
Nash: Yes.
Clint: And Jessie's in love with Antonio. Can you accept that?
Nash: Well, Clint, do I have a choice?
Clint: (to Nash) I don't know what went on between you and Jessie, but in your speech, you were right. She deserves to be happy. Nash, I keep telling people that you're a good man. Thank you for not making a liar out of me.
Nash: You know what? If things had worked out just a little bit differently, you might be calling me that for real. Son-in-law, that is.
Clint: You mean, if Tess had been the dominant personality.
Nash: Yeah. What else would it be?
Nash: Jessica is a great girl. You and Mrs. Davidson did a great job with her.
Clint: You know, it's funny that you should say that because I was trying to convince Jessie's mother of that just now.
Nash: Yeah, I know she feels like she let her down. You, too. But it has occurred to me that I would have done anything to have parents like you two. It's another reason I wish things had worked out, me and Jess -- Tess. Tess.
Clint: You know something? Just because you'll never be my son-in-law doesn't mean that we can't be friends.
Nash: Well, I would like that.
Clint: You can count on it, Nash.
Nash: The day Jessica and Tess were integrated, the woman I loved died.
Clint: Well, then maybe you ought to bury her.
Nash: How am I supposed to do that, huh?
Clint: Son, you've got to find a way to say goodbye. So maybe you just sort of have -- I don't know -- a funeral for what the two of you shared together. You recognize it. You honor it. And then, Nash, you got to let go.
[Clint invites Nash to help him decorate the Christmas tree]
Clint: Are you one of those people who likes to start at the top of the tree or the bottom of the tree?
Nash: I really don't know. I've never done this before. I guess I'll follow your lead, do my best.
Clint: Bottom it is, then.
