Nash & Jessica [2005, August-Octoer]
[Jessica, now back in Llanview but unaware of Nash and Tess's romance in NYC, hears Tess's voice taunting her in her head]
Tess's Voice: I have another secret now.
Jessica: Another secret? About what?
Tess's Voice: Wouldn't you like to know? Something happened in New York, Jessica. Just when you think you got it all figured out -- surprise! We're playing a whole new game.
[Jessica is talking to Tess's voice in her head, unaware that Nash is nearby and listening, thinking she is Tess]
Jessica: New York? What happened in New York?
Nash: That's what I'd like to know. You ran out on me.
[Nash still thinks Jessica is Tess, while Jessica is trying to get away from him]
Jessica: I'm going to talk to my mother.
Nash: Your mother? Hey. You never really seemed like the type who runs off to her mother.
[Nash still thinks that Jessica is Tess]
Nash: Tess, come here. Look, trust me, all right? You can talk to me. Are you in trouble?
Jessica: My name's not Tess.
Nash: You're not Tess? That -- that is amazing. That's amazing. I mean, you look like Tess, you sound like Tess.
[Nash reaches out to touch her arm, and she yanks away from him, so he backs away]
Nash: I'll bet you feel like Tess.
Jessica: I'm not her, okay?
Nash: Well, I guess I'm just a big fool. I mean, I convinced myself that you didn't run out on me. All right? I was worried about you. That's why I came down here, to make sure that you're ok. Hey, I was falling in love with you, Tess! I am in love with you, Tess.
[Jessica re-emerges when Tess is sick and being taken care of by Nash in Napa]
Jessica: Where am I? What -- what is this place?
Nash: You're going to be okay. You've -- you've got a fever, all right? Here -- take this. Lay down.
Jessica: No, get away from me.
Nash: Take it easy, all right? I'm just trying to help.
Jessica: I don't want your help, I want Antonio!
[Nash is unaware that Jessica has temporarily taken control back from Tess]
Jessica: What are you looking at?
Nash: You. I'm looking at you. Who are you?
Jessica: Who am I? I -- I'm --
Nash: You're like two totally separate people. I mean, you're so sure of yourself, but afraid of shadows, and you're a worldly woman who hasn't been around. It's confusing. I never know who I'm going to be with, so who is it, Tess? Who am I -- who am I with today?
Jessica: Uh --
Nash: Oh, it doesn't matter. I can see the sky in those eyes. I love you. I love all of you. All right? And I meant what I said earlier, okay? I'm not going to let anything happen to you. All right? Whatever happened in the past, it's -- it's the past, all right? It can't touch us. All right? There's nobody else, Tess. It's just us. Okay?
[Jessica "appears" to Tess when Tess is sick in Napa]
Jessica: No, this has nothing to do with Antonio or Nash or anybody outside of us.
Tess: Well, then, it's just you and me, babe.
Jessica: No more alcohol, Tess.
Tess: You're an idiot.
Jessica: No, you're an idiot, Tess. You don't have the flu.
Tess: Well, then why am I sick?
Jessica: We're pregnant.
[Tess continues talking to her hallucination of Jessica]
Tess: I can't believe I'm going to have Nash's baby.
Jessica: Nash? What, is that your latest one-night stand? Well, at least you're getting their names these days.
Tess: Nash is not a one-night stand, okay? We're in love.
Jessica: Well, that's a laugh. You don't even know what love is.
[Tess and Jessica argue about which one of them was in control when the baby was conceived]
Tess: And the way things are going, it's all mine. So I win, again.
Jessica: Do you even want to have Nash's baby?
[Antonio has tracked down Jessica, who worries that she ran out on Antonio]
Antonio: No, no, you didn't abandon me. It was Tess. It was -- it was Tess. And I'm sure that guy Nash helped her.
Jessica: You met Nash?
Antonio: Oh, yeah. Yeah, he tried to have me arrested. He's a perfect match for Tess, a real prince.
Jessica: I am so sorry.
Antonio: Stop. Stop saying that. This Nash guy -- he says he's in love with Tess.
Jessica: Tess says that she's in love with Nash. I swear to you, Antonio, I don't even know Nash. I don't know anything about him. And it's what I want that matters, and I want you. I want our life back.
Antonio: So do I. So do I, more than anything. And I am not going to let this Tess or Nash get in our way.
Jessica: I'm afraid he already has.
[Nash has tracked down Jessica at Antonio's loft]
Antonio: Get out.
Nash: Not without my Tess. (to Jessica) Look, I know you're freaking out. I'm freaking out, too. We'll work it out.
Jessica: Nash, I --
Nash: Look, I know what's going on. I know you're going to have my baby.
[Nash still thinks Jessica is Tess and wants to take her away from Antonio's loft]
Nash: Come on -- let's go.
Jessica: No, no one is taking me anywhere.
Nash: (reconsidering) All right, yeah, you're a strong woman. You're right. Want to play this out? Let's play this out.
Jessica: I need a moment with Antonio.
Nash: Why?
Jessica: Please.
Nash: I don't like it. I -- all right, fine. I'll go out that door, but just two steps. And if I hear so much as a whimper from you, I'll bust the damn thing down, all right?
[Nash returns to the room after Jessica and Antonio's talk]
Nash: You two got this all worked out? That's great. We'll get out of your hair now, Antonio.
Antonio: Look, you're going to have to take it easy.
Jessica: Let's all take it easy, okay? It's getting a little hard to breathe.
Antonio: There's something we need to tell you. I know you think you know what's going on, but you don't.
Nash: Enlighten me.
Jessica: No -- you need to hear this from me. Antonio, please, I have to tell him.
Antonio: Okay.
Jessica: I don't -- I don't know how to make this clear so you'll understand.
Nash: Ooh, wait -- you can tell me anything, honey. Is there a problem? Is there something with the baby?
Jessica: There is a problem, but it doesn't have -- doesn't have to do with the baby. It -- it does have to do with the baby, but really the problem's me.
[Nash still thinks that Jessica is Tess and that she left Napa because of their earlier discussion about children]
Nash: Tess -- um -- I screwed up. I'm sorry. I told you I didn't want this kid, that I wasn't ready, but, I mean, it was just me being me, us being us. You know, no strings, no complications. It was total crap.
Jessica: No, that's not it.
Nash: I didn't know that you were pregnant. As soon as I did, I thought it was great. Okay, I can't wait for us to bring up our child. Look, I -- I should have told you that. I'm sorry. I let you down, but this is --
Jessica: You didn't do anything wrong.
[Jessica is struggling to keep Tess at bay, and Antonio notices, while Nash has no idea what's going on]
Antonio: It's happening again, isn't it?
Nash: What is happening?
Jessica: No, I'm all right. Antonio, Tess went to the clinic. But the thought of -- the reality of having a baby made me strong enough, and when I figured out what Tess was trying to do, I ran away.
Nash: "Trying to do"? Tess, why are you referring to yourself in the third person? I don't -- you know, I think that the stress of this whole little threesome that we got going on here is starting to stress you out. Can we please just leave?
Jessica: No.
Nash: Please?
Jessica: You had it right from the beginning. Let's just play this thing out.
Antonio: Are you sure you're up to this?
Jessica: I'm not sure of anything right now.
